About The Blurt
Educators are time poor, and any system designed for schools needs to take this fact into account. The Blurt platform allows teachers to spend more time teaching and less time organising debates, by encouraging offline discussions and brainstorming while providing online evaluation. The whole experience has been designed to be quick and simple, rather than adding another learning curve for teachers to deal with. With access to lesson plans, templates, debating topics, writing techniques, games and marking guild lines, the Blurt! platform gives teachers and students the resources to succeed.
-
All Year Round
The Blurt is an online platform which allows classes to practice persuasion through the form of discussion at any time throughout the year — eliminating the hassle of teaching persuasive writing skills in one time block.
-
Variety Of Topics
On our system, classes can have moderated discussions on over 250 topics, so they will never be without choice for stimulus material. Our topics are not only ranked by difficulty to encourage a scaffolded learning process, they also are separated into each Key Leaning Area so that persuasion can be integrated into EVERY subject. (Yes, it is possible to teach persuasion and mathematics at the same time!)
-
Caters for Differentiation
'The Blurt' also caters for differentiation between students by allowing classes to have multiple arguments at once. We appreciate that GATS students, debating teams and ESL students will all work at different levels, and our system has topics which are scaled to keep them engaged whilst still learning the core skills of persuasion.
-
A Faceless Opposition
Students enjoy teamwork and competition, but poorly managed competition can be detrimental. Our platform allows classes from different schools to connect and debate with each other without disclosing details or location. This way teamwork in presenting the argument is encouraged but the challenge is against an equally anonymous opposition.
-
Practical Time Frame
Teachers are time poor and need a solution that will fit around the pressures of the schooling world. On 'The Blurt', classes are able to have discussions that can last an entire school week, eliminating the need to squeeze your argument into one day.
This time frame will also allow teachers to integrate offline learning by evaluating the argument as it progresses and formulating your persuasive response! -
Consistent Feedback
Each discussion that is held between classes will be marked and given personalised feedback by our adjudicators. This feedback will allow teachers to evaluate the progress of their students throughout the year, identifying their problem areas and taking the appropriate action.
-
Personalised Learning Platform
Our platform gives students the ability to personalise their learning experience. Classes can choose their own team name, background and avatar which will give them a sense of ownership over their platform.
-
Ladders, Rewards and Achievements
To ensure that 'The Blurt' is a stimulating and exciting experience for students all throughout the year, we have developed incentives for classes. Classes who consistently evaluate and improve their arguments are moved up the ladder and gain points and special achievements for their team. The points are then tallied at the end of the year and special rewards will be given to the school itself.
